Page & Small Opticians

With a second national lockdown just hours away, we wanted to take this opportunity to reassure our patients that we are able to remain open and can continue to serve the important eyecare needs of our community.

We are grateful that NHS England and our professional bodies have confirmed today that as an essential medical healthcare service, optical practices in England do NOT need to close in the event of any national or local lockdown. All eye health care should continue to be delivered including delayed routine care so all appointments booked remain unaffected.

We have been advised to continue to follow the College of Optometrist's Amber stage guidance (as we have been since July) in relation to Infection Prevention and Control and social distancing.

Amber guidance requires us to consider the clinical needs and presenting symptoms relative to the risk of sight loss and harm to the patient when prioritising and scheduling appointments.
Routine appointments can continue to be provided, if there is the sufficient capacity to do so, once all urgent and essential appointments have been managed. We will continue to work through and through the backlog of appointment invitations as our capacity allows.
